Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar

The reference 5040P is a platinum perpetual calendar, produced over roughly a decade from the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s, and distinguished by its elegant tonneau-shaped case and refined execution. The case measures approximately 32 x 42mm and is crafted from solid platinum, offering a distinctive presence with its curved, elongated profile. The watch features a silvered dial with applied Breguet numerals, leaf-shaped hands, and a balanced display of perpetual calendar functions, including day, date, month, leap year indication, and a moonphase aperture. The layout is designed for legibility while maintaining aesthetic harmony, with sub-dials positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. The moonphase disc is rendered with fine detailing, contributing both to the watch’s technical complexity and visual appeal. Powered by an ultra-thin automatic movement, the mechanism is visible through a sapphire caseback on certain versions, showcasing traditional high-grade finishing techniques such as Côtes de Genève, anglage, and perlage. The perpetual calendar function automatically adjusts for months of varying lengths and leap years, requiring no correction until the year 2100 under normal use. Paired with the watch is a black alligator strap, matched with a white gold deployment clasp featuring the Calatrava cross.
