1935 Elgin Art Deco Ladies Watch Iridium Platinum & Diamonds 17 Jewels Serviced: 1935 Elgin Art Deco Ladies Watch. Iridium Platinum case with 6 round and 2 baguette diamonds. The case measures 7/8" x 3/8". Inscribed on the inside back is : "IRID PLAT J.MILHENING, INC", some hand engraved numbers, and "132519".
The movement is inscribed "ADJ. TEMP", "17 JEWELS", and the serial number 35017420 - which indicates it was made in 1935 and is Elgin's grade 512 .
It was serviced about 8 years ago, with the old oil replaced with modern oil that does not sludge up with age so it should continue to work well.
The dial has a speck on it between the 9 and the center. It looks worse in the photo than to the naked eye. Other than this the watch appears to fit the definition of Very Good Condition.
Although this watch is less extravagant than many other Elgin Art Deco ladies watches from this time period, I think it is much more attractive with its understated elegance and lack of ostentation. The watch belonged to my grandmother. It originally had a woven black band, but was replaced during servicing. Similar bands are available - if you'd like to return it to its full original appearance.

Elgin watches, produced by the Elgin National Watch Company from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, are known for their quality and craftsmanship. While some rare gold-cased and railroad watches can be quite valuable, many Elgin watches, including Art Deco models, are relatively affordable for collectors. The value of this particular watch is estimated to be between $1,099 and $1,500.
