Vacheron Constantin Royal Eagle Chronograph 49145
While Vacheron’s foray into sports watch territory might be dominated by the 222 and its sibling collection, the Overseas, the early 2000s was calling for a dressier sports watch that blended elegance with impressive capability in a more stylish way. As a result, Vacheron launched the Royal Eagle Chronograph in 2002 as a watch to fit that exact niche. Marketed to younger buyers, like the Overseas, the Royal Eagle was a slightly more classical design than its peer, with its tonneau-shaped case harking back to Vacheron references of old. Made of stainless steel and fittingly sized at 37mm x 40mm, the Royal Eagle successfully breached the middle ground between Vacheron’s typical market of complicated dress watches and the relatively new territory that was sports watches, at the time. Offered with a silver dial featured applied exploding Arabic numerals, recessed subdial and a large date, the Royal Eagle is as legible as one will need, but with the added spice of being rather unique and confident in its design. With a symmetrical silver dial, the Royal Eagle ref. 49145 features a big date at 12 o'clock alongside a trio of recessed subdials that give its display a wonderful level of depth that is only added to by its large applied Arabic numerals. Blending elegance with sport, the Royal Eagle's stainless steel construction is fittingly intricate for Vacheron, with its brick-style bracelet and multi-surface case both terrifically complex.
