Flat mineral crystal. Launched in 1977, the Vacheron Constantin ref. 44518/415, known as the 222, was introduced to mark the 222nd anniversary of the brand. Contrary to what some believe, its design is not the work of the famous Gerald Genta, but of a young Jorg Hysek, who created it at just 24 years old. The reference was available in several sizes: a 34 mm "mid-size" case, a 24 mm quartz version, and a 37 mm "jumbo" case. The watch was available in stainless steel, yellow gold, white gold, and a two-tone combination, thus catering to a wide range of tastes. According to factory records, during the eight years of production, fewer than 700 pieces in steel were made, approximately 150 in yellow gold, and fewer than 100 in steel and yellow gold. This 34 mm specimen belongs to the rarest metal combination ever produced and, according to experts, could appreciate further over time, both historically and through an increase in its value.
