Following the success of the Royal Oak (1972) and the Nautilus (1976), Vacheron entrusted Jörg Hysek with the task of creating its own interpretation of a timepiece that followed these aesthetic principles, conceived to celebrate the brand’s 222nd anniversary. The 222 series was produced in very limited numbers, and it is estimated that fewer than 500 Jumbo examples left the manufacture during the model’s eight-year production run—an element that today significantly contributes to its rarity and collectability. The present lot stands out for its silver dial with Roman numerals, a rare and scarcely documented configuration that gives this timepiece a unique character within the 222 production. Preserved in excellent condition, this example represents a rare opportunity to add to one’s collection a reference that has marked a pivotal moment in the industry—especially at a time when interest in integrated-bracelet sports watches continues to grow.
