Tudor

Submariner “Mil-Sub” of steel, ref. 7928/0. Mechanical movement with automatic winding. 1967. NATO strap with buckle of steel. Diameter 39 mm. Caseback with Naval Seal inscription U.S. NSWG-2 020 FEB.68, inner screw-back dated II.67. In response to the escalating situation in Southeast Asia, President John F. Kennedy recognized the growing importance of unconventional warfare and special operations as a countermeasure to guerrilla tactics. In March 1961, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Arleigh Burke recommended creating specialized guerrilla and counter-guerrilla units capable of operating by sea, air, or land. This recommendation led to the establishment of the Navy SEALs. The first two teams were activated in January 1962, stationed on opposite coasts of the United States: SEAL Team ONE at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado in San Diego, California, and SEAL Team TWO at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Composed entirely of personnel drawn from the Navy’s Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs), the SEALs were tasked with missions involving counter-guerrilla warfare and clandestine operations in maritime and riverine environments.
