Description
1084 Submariner Snowflake 7021/0 c. 1969 'Snowflake' hands are as synonymous with Tudor as 'Mercedes' hands are with Rolex watches. They were first introduced in 1968, as an alternative to the Mercedes hands that would have more surface area to apply luminescent material on. Rumour has it that it was a request from the French Navy which led to this, though it quickly made its way into Tudor's regular catalogue. The Submariner might be the watch you most strongly associate with Rolex, but the iconic watch was also offered by Tudor for over three decades. The Tudor Submariner takes most of its visual cues from its older sibling, the Rolex Submariner. More than that, many components, such as the crown, caseback and bracelet are marked with Rolex branding. While this may seem unusual and unprofessional in today's day and age, it was probably a benefit to have its more illustrious sibling's name on as much of the watch as possible - as if to remind purchasers that owning a Tudor was a mark of pride, not shame.
