Toledano & Chan B/1 B/1

Description

Toledano & Chan B/1

A bold, sculptural wristwatch that pairs architectural angularity with rich material contrasts. Presented with its display box and thank you card - this model wasn't supplied with warranty papers from the factory. The vendor confirms the watch to be in good working order. The Toledano & Chan B/1 is a sculptural wristwatch developed by visual artist and collector Phil Toledano and designer Alfred Chan. Conceived as a contemporary design object rather than a retro reinterpretation, the B/1 draws primary inspiration from Brutalist architecture - specifically Marcel Breuer’s Breuer Building in New York City. The watch’s case and dial geometry reference the building’s angular, projecting fenestrations, resulting in a distinctive, faceted form defined by sharp lines, asymmetry, and strong visual depth. The integrated case-and-bracelet construction features a combination of brushed and sandblasted finishes, with sharply articulated links that emphasise the watch’s architectural character. While subtle references to integrated-bracelet watches of the 1960s and 1970s are present, the design is not derivative, instead prioritising original form and structural experimentation. A lapis lazuli stone dial introduces contrast, pairing a natural, richly coloured material with the austere, industrial case design. The dial framing incorporates forced perspective and asymmetry, creating visual depth and an optical illusion effect. Powering this reference is the Sellita SW100, a self-winding movement operating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve. Overall, the B/1 presents a design-driven approach that emphasises form, material contrast, and three-dimensional presence, positioning the watch as a sculptural object as much as a functional timepiece.
