This limited watch combines Swatch’s playful design with an exclusive material, making it as much a collector’s piece as an everyday accessory. The watch also has a glass case back so you can see the attractive, high-performing ETA movement, considered one of the best movements in history and used by hundreds of watchmakers over the years. A bit more about the watch: In the early 1990s Swatch—just as now (thanks to the Moonswatch)—was truly one of the hottest names in the watch world, especially on Wall Street and in finance. Nicolas G. Hayek (CEO then and still head of Swatch Group) launched this extremely bold model in 1993, which to this day is the only watch Swatch has allowed to be made in platinum. He chose to launch it on NYMEX, the New York exchange where commodities such as precious metals like platinum and gold are traded. It quickly became a talking point because it was seen as something impossible: a platinum watch that cost a fraction of other watches in the same material. The price was about 1,600 US dollars, which at the time was roughly 20 times more expensive than regular Swatch watches but, as said, still significantly cheaper than equivalents from more traditional Swiss manufacturers. They produced 12,999 pieces, which sold like hotcakes, this one is one go the last hundreds made. Condition: The watch is very lightly used and well cared for. Normal, minor signs of wear occur, but nothing that detracts from the overall impression. Probably worn less than 10 times. Crystal and case are in very fine condition. The timekeeping is stable and the watch functions as it should. I have never personally worn it and would estimate it has been used maybe 5–10 times. The leather strap is in almost new condition. Included: Original packaging in thick stainless steel, certificate/booklet, an extra original strap, and a spring-bar tool. So instead of buying a plastic Moonswatch with a quartz movement, here you can buy a platinum watch with a recognized, high-quality automatic Swiss movement for a modest sum.
