Speake Marin, the independent Swiss watchmaker based in Geneva, unveiled their latest creations at Watches & Wonders 2023: the ONE & TWO ACADEMIC White and ACADEMIC Black Tie watches. Now, they invite us to explore the interplay of audacity and elegance through the lens of the color red. Red, known for its captivating and multifaceted symbolism, embodies passion, love, and courage. It exudes confidence, strength, and desire, epitomizing the French "art de vivre" style admired worldwide. Introducing the ACADEMIC ROUGE, Speake Marin embraces the challenge of selecting the perfect shade of red - Pantone 188C, akin to a medium-dark pink-red reminiscent of ruby. Its lacquered finish adds sophistication and brilliance to the dial, creating an arresting visual impact. The Roman numerals, treated with matt red Super-LumiNova Billight, complement the glossy surface, while the signature SPEAKE MARIN and small seconds at 1:30 offer a symmetrical contrast. The heart-shaped, rhodium-plated hour and minute hands stand out vividly against the intense red backdrop. The ACADEMIC ROUGE's case, a new generation Piccadilly round tubular design, measures a slender 10.5 mm in thickness. Crafted from grade 5 titanium, both the case and fluted crown exude elegance. The strap, in gray skin, is secured with a matching titanium folding clasp. Anti-reflective treated sapphire crystals grace the dial and caseback, providing clear views of the exquisite movement within. This timepiece runs on the in-house automatic SMA03 caliber, featuring a fully integrated micro-rotor. With a generous 52-hour power reserve, it showcases meticulous hand decoration and traditional fine watchmaking techniques.
