Description
5615 Submariner Date 1680 c. 1972 The ref. 1680 Submariner is one of the most recognisable vintage Rolex references. As the very first Submariner with a date function, it split the line into two - one with a calendar complication, and one without.\n\nWhen compared to its two contemporaries (the 5512 and 5513), the 1680 was a notable departure. The date window was an obvious one, but this also meant that it was the first Submariner to ever feature the magnifying 'cyclops'. The acrylic crystals were also all flat, unlike the earlier 5512 and 5513 references which featured domed crystals until later in their production.\n\nAnother interesting differentiator is the dial. Up until 1975, the 'Submariner' text was red, while watches produced after had the text written in white. These variations make the 1680 one of the most collectible Submariner references, and enthusiasts' passion for them have led to extensive scholarship. Stainless Steel 1972 1680 Case The case and bracelet have some scratches and marks appropriate for a vintage watch. Bezel The bezel is slightly loose.
