This Rolex Submariner is offered in the UK by a business seller. Among the most historical versions of this iconic dive watch, the 1680 was the first ever Submariner to incorporate a date window. The serial number suggests this example was produced in 1978. Presented with a Rolex service card only - the original display box and warranty papers are not included. The ref. 1680 holds great historical significance, being the first Submariner to feature a date aperture. This key change took this strictly tool-oriented model line in a different direction, with the date and its ‘cyclops’ magnifier defining the modern-day Submariner. Produced from 1967 to 1980 (approx.), the model is broadly split into two generations, one with red Submariner script, and the second in white. As a member of the latter generation, this example also features other defining characteristics from this era including the packed four-line script. Internally, the watch is powered by the in-house chronometer-certified calibre 1575 movement. The watch is paired to a brushed Oyster bracelet.
