Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665

Description

Ref 1665-1 ROLEX Sea-Dweller « Great White » Mk2 « Rail Dial »

During decompression, helium must be expelled from the watch case, and on early Submariners, when decompression was too rapid, it would escape, causing the crystal to shatter. … This is how the story of the Rolex Sea-Dweller began. This version of the dial has been primarily seen since 1968. The dial printing is distinguished mainly by the direct printing of red ink onto the dial (the MK1 red was applied over a white background). The font size of the second red line is smaller, and the black ink/varnish combination of this dial has a characteristic highly prized by collectors, as many examples have turned brown. Among the distinctive features, the crown recess is almost nonexistent on this version.
