Description

Rolex Milguass 116400GV Green Crystal Black Dial

First released in 1956, the Rolex Milgauss was a ground-breaking watch designed for the scientists at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, as the scientists’ watches would commonly become magnetised and no longer work. Launched as one of the most anti-magnetic watches around at the time, the Milgauss could withstand 1000 gauss of magnetism, hence its name. Launched in 2007 as a revival of the collection following a 19 year hiatus, the black dial ref. 116400GV that we have here speaks to the Milgauss’ science-inspired heritage thanks to its striking lightening-shaped orange seconds hand, unique orange dial inscriptions and distinctive orange indices at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. Furthermore, the Milgauss ref. 116400GV also features a green sapphire crystal that is only offered on the Milgauss collection and brightens up its black dial. Measuring 40mm in diameter, the Milguass is the perfect size for a variety of wrist sizes, and with its polished bezel, lug hoods, its stainless steel Oystercase is admittedly bright, thus giving the Milgauss plenty of presence on the wrist. Combining style, with function, and precision, the Milgauss defines Rolex’s desire to build a large variety of watches that are tools for those that need them. However, unlike their pursuit to make watches for divers and race car drivers, the Milgauss was for scientists, making it a rather smart option for any watch collection. THE DIAL Featuring three immediately distinguishable ingredients, the ref. 116400GV's display is unlike the vast majority of its fellow black-dialed Rolex siblings. These differences are its orange lightning bolt second hand, its orange hour markers and its green-colored sapphire crystal. THE CASEBACK One of the very few Rolex models to feature caseback inscriptions, the Milgauss actually boasts two casebacks in a bid to increase its magnetic resistance.
