From that moment, Tiffany & Co. rose to become one of the world’s most prestigious jewelry houses. Yet it is said that Tiffany’s true pursuit extended beyond jewels—into the realm of timepieces. In 1861, Tiffany established a workshop in Geneva, Switzerland, and by 1874 expanded its vision further with the creation of a large-scale watch factory in Geneva Cornavin—unprecedented for its time. Meanwhile, from the late 1840s, Tiffany had already been sourcing movements from Patek Philippe, producing some of the finest timepieces of the era. However, in 1878, in order to preserve its identity as a jeweler, Tiffany withdrew from manufacturing and sold its factory to Patek Philippe. From that point forward, Tiffany maintained a strong philosophy in watch retailing, forming partnerships with leading Swiss manufacturers. Its collaboration with Rolex began around the 1950s and continued until 1990. During this period, watches supplied by Rolex were sometimes signed with the retailer’s own mark—“TIFFANY & CO.”—on the dial. Today, such double-signed pieces command significant premiums. However, this has also led to a surge in counterfeit dials, many reproduced with near-perfect precision, blurring the line between genuine and fake in the market. Complicating matters further, even watches with later-added “TIFFANY & CO.” signatures have, in some cases, passed through official servicing channels. As a result, the ability to definitively verify whether a dial was originally sold by Tiffany remains extremely limited. While archival records may exist, they are not publicly disclosed. Since 2023, Rolex has introduced NFC authentication cards and signaled entry into NFT-based traceability—marking a transformation in how authenticity is approached. Notably, documentation explicitly certifying such retailer signatures has effectively disappeared. The implication is clear: the truth must now be pursued beyond paper alone. A Verified Example This particular piece underwent a complete service by Japan Rolex in October 2025, with no dial replacement, preserving the original 1968 “Long E” dial and its beautifully aged tritium hour markers exactly as they were. The rare black bezel (post-1975 production) remains in exceptional condition, while the hands were replaced during service. The bracelet is a correct Jubilee Ref. 6251H with 55 end links, dating from approximately 1973–1975—an era without clasp codes, and fully original. The case has been professionally refinished by Rolex to a near-new condition. Quite simply, this is a flawless and exceptional example—worthy of the highest praise.
