Description

Rolex GMT-Master 1675 "Pepsi Mk0" - Box

Introduced in 1954, the now cult classic Rolex GMT was initially designed as a pilots and travelers watch with its roots tied to Pan Am. The first examples featured a "Pepsi" bezel insert which provided ease of use for deciphering day/night in an alternate time-zone and remains in production to this day. Over the decades, various iterations of the GMT have been released from the "Root Beer" to the blue "Batman." Today, the GMT is as practical as it is popular with collectors, offering great beauty in it's vintage and neo-vintage examples which have taken on their own unique character over the decades. This particular 159X serial example, circa 1967 has remained in stunning vintage condition. It houses a mint condition "Mk0 matte dial" that has take a lovely warm "khaki" patina. The hands were likely color matched and pair perfectly to the dial. The insert is lightly faded, adding just the right amount of character and charm one could hope for. Notably, Rolex were still hand finishing cases in this era and the case is equally beautiful with thick, even lugs and large factory chamfers still present. This piece comes paired with a correct stretch rivet bracelet with matching date code of '67. It displays virtually no play in it from factory, retains 12 links and will fit an approximate 7.75 inch wrist. It is not often we come across such a remarkably attractive example of this important reference. Dial: Fantastic preservation no notable blemished under a loupe. All of the tritium plots have aged evenly and match the hands. Bezel insert: Is fantastic and highly attractive with a "pinkish" hue in the lower half. There are normal signs of use consistent with age but nothing distracting. Hands: Were likely color matched in the past but were done so expertly and match the dial very well. Case: Remains sharp with original chamfers still visible. All of the lugs are thick and even. Correct signed crown. Bracelet: Has a matching date code of '67 and is a desirable stretch rivet variant.
