Announced in April 2021, the ref. 226570 was launched to tie in with the model's 50th anniversary. The watch takes on the larger 42mm Oyster case of its predecessor but introduces some subtle but purposeful changes. Some excess bulk has been shaved off the lugs, but what hasn’t changed is the Explorer II’s undeniable tool-watch aesthetic. This example has been configured with a versatile black dial. Its large Chromalight filled hands and markers provide superior legibility in all lighting conditions and the orange GMT hand is a nod to the original Explorer II of 1971. The model's signature brushed steel bezel displays a 24-hour scale, allowing the wearer to track two time zones simultaneously. Housed inside the case is the chronometer-certified calibre 3285 movement, which boasts a 72-hour power reserve and is shared with the iconic GMT-Master II. Underpinning the Explorer II’s hardy ‘go anywhere, do anything’ character is its water resistance of 100 metres.
