CONDITION
This Rolex Datejust is in excellent condition for its age. The dial is superb showing no flaws. The tritium plots are perfect, the hands match perfectly and show a slight normal oxidation. The movement works very well (266° / +2s/d). We have no service history. The case has been repolished in the past but is still thick and sharp. The bracelet is excellent, shows only a very slight normal stretch and fits up to a 19cm wrist. The buckle is stamped with a 1981 date code.

The Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 is one of the most famous vintage watches. A well-proportioned 36 mm steel case, the fluted bezel in 14k white gold and the famous Jubilee bracelet.
The Datejust was the first self-winding watch to show the date in a window on the dial that jumps out instantly at midnight to ensure that the date is "right" at all times. With its timeless design, perfect time legibility, date window and self-winding movement, this model has remained one of the most popular Rolex watches since its launch in 1945.
This 1972 model has a beautiful, rare black "Pie-pan" dial; most of the production was done with silver dials.
In the 1970s, the Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l'Or (or 'APRIOR'), which brought together a number of watchmakers, took the initiative of registering a symbol, the Greek letter Sigma 'σ', to identify the use of gold in the materials of a watch. Affixed to the dial at 6 o'clock, this symbol means that the indexes are made of solid gold. A detail often appreciated by collectors.
