A stainless steel automatic diver's wristwatch made for Comex, Oyster bracelet with Rolex deployant clasp. With box and outer packaging, an extra Oyster bracelet. From a private collector. The Submariner 5514 is a legendary reference in Rolex production, as it is one of the very few models developed and produced to order, exclusively for COMEX (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises). Since 1905, Rolex has only fulfilled two such institutional orders: the 5514 for COMEX and the 5517 for the British Army. Strictly reserved for COMEX's professional divers, the 5514 is now considered the rarest and most sought-after Rolex "COMEX" by collectors and enthusiasts of historical diving watches. This model was produced over a relatively short period of just six years, approximately between 1972 and 1978. Delivered sporadically and in very limited numbers, generally estimated at around 150 pieces, this watch is a rare find. Our example is particularly attractive because it corresponds to the typology of the very first series delivered to Comex, that is to say, without the word "Comex" on the dial, without engraved serial numbers on the case back, and with a case back stamped "5513". Particularly rare on the market, this type of 5514 is undoubtedly the most desirable "Comex" for any enthusiast of legendary tool watches. Acquired by its current owner from the descendants of a Comex diver who worked between 1974 and 1979, this 5514 is a true rediscovery.
