As an alternative to the classic reference 3970, the 5020 was first introduced in 1994, produced with a dial and case reminiscent of a 1960s television set, which this reference gains the name as the Patek TV set watch. However, it was not a great success for Patek Philippe as collectors at that time were not thrilled with the overall design and large size of this watch. Like with many creations, this watch has begun to be appreciated only after it ceased production in 2002 at estimated production of 150 pieces in total. In retrospect, this is an iconic reference ahead of its time and a trophy for any modern wristwatch collection.
To our best knowledge, there are a total of about 150 watches of 5020 produced in yellow, rose, white gold and platinum. Scholarship recorded less than 20 pieces were cased in platinum.
The present example with black dial and enhanced with diamond indexes, is 1 of the 3 examples known to date. The watch is further presented in excellent overall condition and complete with it Certificate of Origin confirming its beautiful black dial and diamond set markers.
