Patek Philippe 5040P-014 Perpetual Calendar

Released in 1992 and produced primarily in yellow gold until its discontinuation in 2007, the platinum variant ref. 5040P that we have here is understated, elegant, and incredibly rare. The first tonneau-shaped perpetual calendar watch from Patek Philippe, clearly inspired by the Art Deco movement and Abraham-Louis Breguet, it was the first serially produced wristwatch from the brand to carry both, Breguet numerals and Breguet hands. Described by many seasoned collectors as one of the most overlooked complication pieces from Patek, the ref. 5040's dial is as legible as they come. Sporting clear script throughout its three subdials, and a circular railroad-style minute track along the glossy black dial's periphery, the ref. 5040 is a visual treat with something taking your eye's interest no matter where you look. While it is covered by a solid platinum caseback, within its 35mm case lies one of the finest perpetual calendar movements Patek ever produced, the automatic cal. 240Q. This allows each subdial to feature two individual pieces of information. The subdial at 9 o'clock provides the wearer with a day indication and 24-hour clock, while the subdial at 6 o'clock provides the wearer with a moon phase indicator and day of the month display, and the 3 o'clock position includes the month and leap year indicator. An intricately designed watch, from its physical construction to its displays, the ref. 5040P is easily one of the most refined Grand Complication timepieces to ever leave the Patek Philippe workshop. Featuring a jet black glossy dial with Breguet numerals and Breguet hands, the 5040P's display is wonderfully refined with a plethora of information across its three calendar subdials. The first Patek Philippe to sport a tonneau-shaped case, the 5040P's platinum case is entirely wearable and incredibly comfortable for most wrist sizes.
