Description
Patek Philippe introduced the Perpetual Calendar reference 5140 in 2006. It is the successor to the 3940, one of the most important timepieces in Patek's recent history that established the standard for all subsequent perpetual calendars. The slim micro-rotor movement of the watch complements its modern 37.2mm size and sleek design, resulting in a cutting-edge and elegant timepiece. --> SPECIFICATIONS Brand: Patek Philippe Model: Grand Complication Perpetual Calendar Reference Number: 5140J-001 Movement: Automatic Condition: Unpolished piece in very good condition with a few minor surface scratches that can be erased with a soft polishing service - upon the client's discretion Gender: Men's Time Period: 2007 Box: Yes Papers: Extract from Patek Philippe Archives THE CALIBER Caliber: 240 Q Jewels: 27 THE CASE Case Material: 18K yellow gold Case Diameter: 37.2 mm Thickness: 8.5 mm Waterproof: 100 ft./ 30 m./ 3 ATM Bezel Material: Stepped 18K yellow gold Glass: Sapphire Crystal Caseback: Open display back Dial: White opaline Dial Numerals: 18K yellow gold applied stick hour indices, yellow gold dots minute division around the outer rim, black painted Arabic numerals on the sub-dials THE BRACELET / STRAP Bracelet Material: Black Leather Buckle: Deployant Fold-over Buckle material: 18K yellow gold THE FUNCTIONS Perpetual calendar, date, moon phase indicators at 6 o'clock, day of the week and 24-hour register at 9 o'clock, month and leap year indicators at 3 o'clock, hours, minutes, 48-hour power reserve. --> FURTHER READING This round-shaped Patek Philippe Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar 5140G-001 in 18K yellow gold features an alligator leather strap with a Patek Philippe Calatrava cross fold-over yellow gold buckle, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a display case back with a hinged flip-up design. It features a pull/push winding crown engraved with the Calatrava cross. This solid two-body case is polished, as are the curved downturned lugs and the rounded stepped bezel. It showcases a white opaline dial with yellow gold applied baton-shaped hour indexes and dauphine-shaped hour/minute hands. In addition, there are three recessed white subsidiary dials with black Arabic numerals and yellow gold indicator hands. The Patek Philippe GENEVE signature is featured at 12 o'clock. The white opaline dial has three registers, and the various functions are displayed symmetrically. While the counter for leap years and months is shown at three o'clock on the subdial, the month and day/night indicators are located at nine o'clock, and the moon phase, surrounded by the days of the month, is displayed at six o'clock. The gold dauphine hands and dart indices give the dial a bold touch. Four push-piece correctors set the perpetual calendar; the corrector at 9 o'clock sets "days of the week only, the "corrector at 11:30 sets "date and days of the week," the corrector at 12:30 sets "month," and the corrector at 6 o'clock sets "moon phase." This Patek Philippe Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar 5140G-001 is powered by the caliber 240 Q automatic self-winding movement. It is rhodium plated with côtes de Genève and hallmarked with the Geneva quality seal. It comprises 27 jewels, 275 components, eight bridges, and a shock absorber. It features a temperature-adjustable monometallic Gyromax balance with five positions, a self-compensating Spiromax balance spring, an index regulator, and a 22k gold off-center micro-rotor. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). Each watch component is signed, including the ultra-thin case, dial, and movement. Patek Philippe made the first perpetual calendar wristwatch in 1925. This Patek Philippe Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar 5140, the successor to reference 3940, was introduced in 2006 in white gold, in 2007 in yellow gold, and in 2010, in rose gold and platinum. It was then replaced in 2016 by the model reference 5327.
