Patek Philippe, Ref. 5711 and Ref. 5711 / 1A-014 During the 2021 Watches & Wonders trade fair in Geneva, Patek Philippe CEO Thierry Stern surprisingly announced that production of the “Nautilus” model would be discontinued at the end of the year and that two final models would be launched on the market, one in stainless steel with a green dial (Ref. 5711 / 1A-014), the other identical with a bezel set with baguette-cut diamonds (Ref. 5711 / 1300A-001). So, it was during the 45th year of the “Nautilus”’s life that this event took place, as the model became increasingly popular with collectors around the world. The “Nautilus”, which only indicates the time and date, has nevertheless seen special pieces to mark its 30th and 40th anniversaries, with a design revisited in relation to the legendary Ref. 3700, the mother of the whole family. Thierry Stern’s surprise announcement created a veritable frenzy, with collectors all over the world rushing to their authorised dealers to obtain an allocation, knowing that the watch would only be in production for a few months. While the exact number of pieces manufactured of Ref. 5711 / 1A-014 remains unknown, demand is and always will be far greater than supply, making this latest edition of Ref. 5711, the “Green Dial”, one of the most coveted watches of the last two years. Even more astonishing was the release at the end of 2021 of a limited edition of 170 pieces to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the business relationship between Tiffany & Co, New York, and Patek Philippe, Geneva. So, what were we to make of Mr. Thierry Stern’s comments, the end of Ref. 5711 or of all the “Nautilus” models? Thirteen models bearing Ref. 5711 are available in different materials, all with the seconds in the centre and the date and month indicated. Ten have integrated bracelets and three have leather straps. In chronological order: • 2006 (available until 2013), 30th anniversary, Ref. 5711 / 1A-001, stainless steel, blue dial, Cal. 324 SC (balance without Spiromax). • 2007 (available until 2009), Ref. 5711 / J-001, yellow gold (18-carat), leather strap, silvered dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2007 (available until 2009), Ref. 5711 / R-001, pink gold (18-carat), leather strap, dark grey dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2007 (available until 2009?), Ref. 5711 / G-001, white gold (18-carat), leather strap, dark grey dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2012 (available until 2021), Ref. 5711 / 1A-010, stainless steel, dark blue dial, Cal. 324 SC; this is the purest reinterpretation of the original model. • 2012 (available until 2020), Ref. 5711 / 1A-011, stainless steel, white dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2013 (available until 2016), Ref. 5711 / 1P-010, platinum, blue dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2015 (available until 2021), Ref. 5711 / 1R-001, pink gold (18-carat), brown dial, Cal. 324 SC. • 2016, 40th anniversary, Ref. 5711 / 1P-011, platinum, blue dial with baguette-cut diamond-indexes and “40 / 1976-2016” logo at 6 o’clock, Cal. 324 SC, limited edition of 700 pieces. • 2019 (available until 2021), Ref. 5711 / 110 P-001, platinum, dark grey dial with baguette-cut diamond-indexes, bezel set with baguette-cut diamonds, Cal. 324 SC. • 2021, Ref. 5711 / 1A-014, stainless steel, olive-green dial, Cal. 26-330 SC. • 2021, Ref. 5711 / 1300A-001, stainless steel, olive-green dial, bezel set with baguette-cut diamonds, Cal. 26-330 SC. • 2021, Ref. 5711 / 1A-018, stainless steel, “Tiffany”-blue dial, Cal. 26-330 SC; limited edition of 170 pieces, produced to mark the 170th anniversary of commercial relations with Tiffany & Co., New York. -- Patek Philippe “Nautilus” The “Nautilus” collection was introduced in 1976. Patek Philippe was looking for a strong design and an inimitable personality. An inspiration for its design soon emerged: the universal shape of a porthole found on virtually all maritime vessels. The original model was the Ref. 3700/1 in stainless steel. Since then, the “Nautilus” has established itself as a classic, elegant sports watch and the original reference is one of the most sought-after timepieces at auction. The new “Nautilus” collection showcases the flattering redesign of Patek Philippe’s casually elegant classic. It has gained style through subtle and carefully calculated changes while preserving its original spirit. -- https://watchbase.com/patek-philippe/nautilus
