The smaller-sized Nautilus embarked a center second caliber with date indication: its production can be divided into 4 successive series. The first series for the reference 3800 span from 1987 to 1992, utilizing the caliber 335SC. The second series used the same caliber 335SC with the notable modern addition of a date quickset, allowing the date to be set through the crown. The third series saw light in 1997, introducing the use of cal. 330 134 before the introduction of the final and fourth series, using the caliber 330 194. In 2006, the reference 3800 was discontinued and ultimately replaced with the reference 5800. The present example, made in 1984 and sold the following year, belongs to the second series. The elegant yellow gold case is therefore fitted with the caliber 335SC featuring the quick-set date. The timepiece is fitted with a gilt ribbed dial with 11 diamond-indexes as confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. What makes this example particularly sought-after is the fine row of diamonds on the bezel that is characteristic of the 3800/2. In-depth studies demonstrate that less than 100 pieces were made and fewer than 10 have appeared on the auction market, making this well preserved lot a truly remarkable opportunity.
