Along with the Nautilus ref. 5980, this model marked the first time Patek Philippe incorporated an in-house chronograph movement into a non-perpetual calendar watch. At the time, most Patek Philippe watches utilized Lemania ébauches, but the ref. 5960 debuted the brand's first entirely in-house designed and assembled chronograph caliber. - The novelty of the movement is fully expressed in the dial design of this reference. Dominated by the “bull’s eye” subdial at 6 o'clock, which combines the minute and hour totalizers into one register, this watch was the first Patek Philippe serially produced timepiece to feature a 12-hour counter.
