Omega Speedmaster Reduced 175.0032 White Dial Launched in 1988 as an affordable version of the icon that is the Speedmaster, the Omega Speedmaster Reduced offered the Speedmaster’s timeless aesthetic and moonwalking heritage for a fraction of the price of its big brother but with some subtle design changes that allowed a difference to exist between the two collections. Offered in stainless steel, the Speedy Reduced features a 39mm case instead of the full-sized version’s 42mm case, along with a slightly different dial design whereby its subdials are spread further out, and the word “Professional “ is swapped for the word “automatic”. Indeed, powering the Speedy Reduced, and the reason for its spread out subdials, is the automatic ETA cal. 2890-2 movement with a Dubois-Depraz module attached to provide the chronograph function. As with most cheaper alternatives to icons, Omega went with the route of using the Speedy Reduced to introduce a splash of color to the Speedmaster family, and so different variants with different color dials can be found, such as the Michael Schumacher edition with blues, reds, yellows and more, and the example we have here with a white dial that is much rarer than its F1-inspired counterparts.
THE DIAL Boasting a white dial, the ref. 175.0032 adds a new visual to the Speedmaster's display's DNA that contrasts the collection's typical black dial.
THE CONSTRUCTION Smaller than its full-sized counterpart, the Speedy Reduced enjoys a 39mm stainless steel case that is more wearable than the Speedmaster's 42mm case. However, it retains the collection's aesthetic and overall design thanks to its lyre lugs, familiar bracelet and overarching case shape.
