Company boss Jack w. Heuer primarily had professional users in mind, for example airplane pilots or racing drivers, with whom the then 30-year-old had a special relationship. The Autavia was designed as a robust chronograph for measuring short times and clearly displaying the time with luminous numerals and hands. In 1962, the rotating bezel with index was not yet as common as one might think, and of course a classic hand-wound movement (Valjoux caliber 72) provided the drive. From 1970, the Autavia, like all other Heuer chronographs, was equipped with the new Chronomatic caliber, the first automatic chronograph movement with a micro-rotor. The so-called "Caliber 11" was a joint development by Heuer-Leonidas, Breitling, Hamilton-Büren and Dubois-Dépraz, the latter as the supplier of the chronograph cadrature, which was applied to the basic movement (by Büren). Our Autavia is a true rarity. It comes from first ownership and is in perfect, unpolished original condition with slight signs of wear (the watch had probably spent its time in its original box in a drawer). It also comes with the original guarantee booklet, which was issued by the Viennese authorized dealer Adolf Pöckel in 1971. Our watchmaker had carried out an overhaul of the movement, which was necessary after all these years at a standstill. Of course, the case and the strap remained untouched! A fantastic collector's item, which you will hardly find on the market in this condition and with the guarantee certificate. 1 year dealer warranty
