Description

Habring² "Erwin-Lab" w/ Hardened Steel Case & Amagnetic Escapement - Serial #2 (Pre-Owned)

Horology By The Sea is proud to present this very special "Lab" version version of Habring²'s Erwin with Jumping Seconds complication. This micro edition of the Erwin features for the first (and to date the only) time a hardened steel case. The case is crafted from BÖHLER N360 which is typically used in knives, medical, racing parts and other applications where extreme hardness is a necessity. Atop the vertically brushed silver dial lies blued steel syringe hands a seconds hand with lightning bolt shaped counterbalance. This hand pays is a subtle reference to Habring²'s patented HMS (Habring² Metallic Shielding) designed to protect the escapement from magnetism. The AMAG contains both – pallet bridge as well as balance cock – to be made from soft iron P904. The aubergine color comes from a TiAlCN-coating to ensure both, some surface hardness on the soft iron and protection against oxidation/corrosion). Together with the modified mainplate (to fit the bigger AMAG-pallet bridge) these parts building a soft iron cage (red) in form of a horseshoe around the hairspring in order to protect it from any magnetic influence. The movement beats at 4Hz and carries approximately 48 hours of power reserve. A tangential screw is in place for fine adjustment and is fit with a Carl Haas hairspring of Chronometer quality.
