I am offering for sale this lovely blue Eterna-Matic Pininfarina Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition in stainless steel with steel bracelet, reference 1504.41 and in pristine condition. It exhibits a most attractive blue textured dial with outer tachymetre, luminous markers and hands, central seconds, subsidiary chronograph dials, a date window at 3 o’clock, an uni-directional rotating bezel and a screw-down case-back. The blue dial reflects different hues of blue at times, depending upon reflection, some of which are captured in the photographs! This nicely sized 38 mm diameter watch (excluding crown) is in pristine condition and all functions work exactly as they should. It comes with its Eterna “tag” and to be perfectly honest, I don’t think the watch has ever been worn (apart from display). It really is in “as new condition”! This Limited Edition watch is numbered A892 of 999 made.
This fantastic chronograph is powered by the 25 jewelled ETA 7750 movement. Eterna is of course known for ETA. ETA used to be their subsidiary company for creating movements for their own watches as well as for other brands. Best known is their Eterna-matic movement, which resulted in the Eterna logo with its five ball bearings. The ETA/Valjoux caliber 7750 is one of the most recognizable and widely used automatic chronograph watch movements. It was based on the manual wind Valjoux caliber 7733, which itself was based on the Venus 188. Today, it is part of the “Mecaline” line of ETA movements. It was officially introduced t0 the watch world around 1973/1974 but after the first run was manufactured, the caliber wasn’t produced again until 1985 (thanks to mechanical timepieces gaining popularity once again). The 7750 was partially designed on a computer – a first for the watch industry. This was done by watchmaker and movement designer Edmond Capt at the age 24! It has a beat rate of 28,800 v.p.h and a power reserve of 48 hours (when new).
The watch does not come with papers/history but a new generic storage box is provided. The bracelet is full sized -no links have ever been removed so it should fit all wrist sizes. You will need to remove links of course if your wrist is smaller. For reference, the photos show the watch on a 7 inch wrist -you can see from one photo how much "extra" there is in the bracelet. If keeping the watch I would certainly need to remove a few links for a good fit.
The watch, as the name implies was designed by the famous Pininfarina Company. Pininfarina is an Italian car design firm and coachbuilder, with headquarters in Cambiano, Turin, Italy. The company was founded by Battista "Pinin" Farina in 1930. Pininfarina is employed by a wide variety of automobile manufacturers to design vehicles. These firms have included long-established customers such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Fiat, GM, Lancia, and Maserati. However, the company has also influenced design in several other areas, including designing the Costa Coffee CEM-200 Marlow Self-Serve Espresso Bar.[290] and the Coca-Cola Freestyle.[291] They also partnered with Bovet 1822 on the Flying Tourbillon wristwatch, creating the Bovet by Pininfarina Collection and of course with Eterna with an input into the design of this chronograph for sale now!
There you have it – a really great chronograph made by a famous watch company, designed by an equally famous design company and in “as new” condition! What’s not to like??
