As Cartier’s head of movement development, she helped the brand introduce their first in-house movements in 2008. In the years that followed, Cartier introduced a range of inventive high complication watches that caught the attention of the collecting community. The Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon ref. W1556205 is a great example of the kind of timepieces that they made during this time. An imposing 47-mm 18k pink gold case fames a truly 3-dimensional dial design. Set across two levels, the silvered guilloché dial displays an external tourbillon that completes a rotation around the every 60 seconds, thus also serving as the seconds hand. The raised central platform displays the time with Cartier’s signature rosette guilloche engraving and a chapter ring. Powered by the in-house cal. 9451 MC, this model demonstrates Cartier’s ability to modernise the classic tourbillon with innovative design and technical skill.
