Vintage Breitling Co-Pilot 765 CP AVI Chronograph ‘Jean Claude Killy’ c.1967

Originally from circa 1967 and in fine, unpolished condition, this stunning vintage chronograph wrist watch would be a perfect addition to any discerning collection. Often referred to as the “Jean-Claude Killy”, the gold medal Olympic skier who wore the model in 1968 but also named after the legendary Hollywood actress, “Raquel Welch who wore a similar model in the 1967 film, Fathom. This 765 AVI features a unique bi-rotational bezel, which is ridged with dual graduation: Arabic numerals mark every hour in stainless steel on a black background, while every five minutes are shown in black on stainless steel. By showing a second time zone in such a precise way, it again adds to the aviator-feel of the watch. The ‘panda’ dial with contrasting, silver triple sub-dials. The matte black dial’s most unusual feature is the sub-register at three o’clock. In order to distinguish it from the typical thirty-minute registers, the fifteen-minute counter is larger than the other sub-dials. It also features five loomed stripes with corresponding Arabic numerals: together with the lumed arrow hand, all serving to ease legibility for the wearer. The dial also has long baton hour markers, 12 numeral and three arrow-shaped hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock with beautifully aged lume, which matches the chronograph hand arrow and hour/minute hands that are framed in white. Set in an unpolished 41mm stainless steel case, featuring the original ‘large B’ crown and faceted lugs, the watch is powered by the Venus 178 manual wind, column wheel chronograph mechanism and has a screw-in case back with Breitling engravings visible. The watch comes fitted on a Breitling-signed stainless steel bracelet. No box or papers but is offered with one year warranty form date of purchase.
