The Chronomat is the oldest collection within Breitling. The original watch dates back to 1941 and was a revolutionary timepiece. It was the first chronograph watch with a round slide rule, which was very useful for the original target audience of the watch, namely mathematicians. Chronomat stood for 'Chronographe Mathematique' at that time. The Chronomat, in the form it has become an icon, is from a later period, specifically 1984. In this year, a watch was developed for the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian aerobatic team. They wanted a robust and functional watch for their specific purposes, while also being elegant enough to be worn outside the cockpit. A good Italian practice, if we may say so. From this moment, we have the iconic Rouleaux bracelet, the onion-shaped crown, and the applied 'rider-tabs' at the cardinal points of the bezel. The later introduction of the Super Chronomat distinguishes itself from the regular Chronomat by its larger size (44mm versus 42mm) and the ceramic bezel compared to the steel bezel. This watch comes with box and papers and was originally sold in 2023, still under the factory warranty of Breitling, which is 5 years for B01 movements.
