While not known as a mainstream watchmaker, Aquastar is a brand with a rich history in the world of horology that has allowed them to become loved by vintage enthusiasts and collectors who seek out unique and interesting watches. Founded in 1962, the brand primarily focused on dive watches and other sports watches, as its name suggests. One such watch that emphasizes that exact point is the Deepstar. Launched in 1965, it boasted a unique mono-subdial display and a two-scale bezel that combined to give the watch a unique design. Relaunched in 2020, the Deepster ref. DI03H5320 that we have here is a faithful re-launch of the watch that came before it, with a sunburst grey dial with a single silver subdial at 3 o’clock, a running indicator at 9 o’clock, and the same two-scale bezel. With an angular 40.5mm stainless steel case – 2mm larger than the vintage model - and a soft patina for its hour markers, the resulting timepiece is both vintage-inspired and modern in its execution, making it the perfect entryway for those who might not want to jump into the deep end that is vintage watch ownership, but still want to enjoy the watch and its aesthetic. THE CONSTRUCTION Enlarged from 38mm to 40mm, the Deepstar Re-Edition's construction is more in line with modern sizing standards for a dive watch than its vintage inspiration.
