Gold soapy watch (pb. 202. 28gr) with repeater, unsigned but made at the Besançon Watchmaking School, 1890. White enamel dial, Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, seconds at 6 o'clock, openworked gold hands; polished steel half-platinum movement, anchor escapement, compensated balance wheel, repeater on gong by slider on the caseband, pendant winding; plain gold case N° 1890 bearing the initials in relief 'SC' and on the bottom the arms of the city of Besançon, in gold, with a sand eagle. Its wings are adorned with two Gules columns held between its talons. D. 58mm. The bowl bears the inscription 'Hommage de la Ville de Besançon à Monsieur Carnot Président de la République 26 mai 1890'. The watch was presented to President Carnot on the occasion of his visit to inaugurate the annual Fête Fédérale des Sociétés de Gymnastique de France, a presentation noted in the local press.
