The story of the A. Lange & Söhne began in the quiet town of Glashütte, nestled in the picturesque Ore Mountains of Saxony, Germany. Yet, the spirit of Lange endured. In 1990, following the reunification of Germany, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, seized the opportunity to revive his family’s legacy. Together with watch industry expert Günter Blümlein, Walter set out to restore the brand to its former glory. This ambitious endeavor culminated in the unveiling of the new A. Lange & Söhne collection in 1994, with the Lange 1 as its flagship model.
The Lange 1 was a revolutionary design that broke with convention while honoring tradition. Its most striking feature was the off-center dial, an asymmetrical layout that created a harmonious balance unlike anything seen before.
The case, polished to a mirror-like finish, encased a meticulously engineered movement that showcased A. Lange & Söhne’s watchmaking prowess. The three-quarter plate, hand-engraved balance bridge, and gold chatons are a testament to the watchmakers’ skill and dedication.
