This is a brand that needs no introduction as it enjoys wide acclaim within the vintage watch community, namely for the mighty “El Primero” movement. With its oversized case and original bracelet, coupled with a luminous matte black dial and handset, this is an unmistakably 1970’s chronograph in its styling, as it captures all the free spirit of adventure and ruggedness in a package that’s pleasing to the eye. Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high-resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch. MODEL / REFERENCE: Zenith Pilot “Sub Sea” reference 01-190-415. DIAL+HANDS: The matte black dial is amazingly preserved and retains a sharp imprint all the way to the rehaut tachymeter scale. The three sunken subdials are also clean and crisp. The whole surface has gently aged, developing an inconspicuous and uniform patina. The Tritium coated handset is in very good aesthetic condition and correct to this reference. The lume material has aged to acquire an attractive beige tone. The painted hour markers still retain their original luminous mass and match the handset’s color tone. CRYSTAL: The flat, mineral crystal is clean and correct. CASE: The cushion-shaped stainless steel case measures 44mm in diameter. Despite its big dimensions, it sits comfortably on the wrist and ensures a great presence, which is further accentuated by a sleek, bidirectional Bakelite bezel. The case appears unpolished as it maintains a strong profile with sharp bevels along the sides and unaltered brushed finish. It displays minimal signs of wear for its age, commensurate with careful wear. The original bezel insert shows signs of use, mainly between 6 and 10 o’clock. It also displays a small crack near the 11 o’clock mark. CASE BACK: The stainless steel, screw-down case back has six opening notches and displays a very legible engraving of the reference number, along with various scratches covering the matte-finished center and polished flange. The inner side is clean and bears the period-correct nomenclature, including the reference number and the EPSA hallmark. CROWN + PUSHERS: The correct winding crown bears the brand’s signature and operates flawlessly, all the way to quick setting the date function. The pump chronograph pushers work correctly, starting, stopping and resetting with crisp feedback. MOVEMENT: Powered by the inhouse Zenith El Primero Cal.400, this self-winding movement features beats at an impressive rate of 36000 vibrations per hour. It offers a Tri-Compax display, featuring constant running seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o’clock. The movement also allows a quick-set date function at 12 o’clock. The numbered calibre is in excellent mechanical condition, keeping good time, with all functions working as intended. BRACELET: The original stainless-steel bracelet comes with straight 22mm end links. Other than its good condition, it displays some scratches that extend to the signed folding clasp. ACCESSORIES: Saffiano Leather Watch Roll. WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide 12 months guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions. Please feel free to ask questions, we will be glad to answer. Personal or virtual viewing is available by appointment.
