The watch is in wonderful condition, and dates to the early 1760s. However, Arthur Grimwade has a biographical note in his book on London Goldsmiths’ marks of two makers of this name, presumably father, who died in 1761, and son who continued working into the 1770s. They were recorded as goldsmiths and ‘toymen’, a toyman being a vendor of luxury goods, including watches with embossed and decorated cases.
