A rare Dent, 61 Strand & Royal Exchange, London, 18K gold pocket watch, with Javanese numerals

Period 1863 (year mark of the gold), England Description A superb pocket watch, with embossed British crown to the cover and Javanese numerals on the dial. This watch belonged to Sultan Hamenkubuwoko VII (1839-1921) the seventh sultan of Yogyakarta (Java, present day Indonesia), reigning from 22 December 1877 until his abdication in 29 January 1921. The Sultan gifted this watch to Ulrich van den Berg, his Dutch son-in-law who was married to one of the daughters of the Sultan. They had four sons and one of these eventually inherited this watch.
