ORIGINAL AND UNPOLISHED. The Overseas is a piece of exceptional watchmaking with incredible detailing from the bezel to the bracelet to the dial and caseback. Firstly the slimness of the case at 9.7mm. This is also antimagnetic, anti shock and has 150m water resistance which makes the thickness even more impressive. It also means it really hugs the wrist and sits nicely under the cuff which is good considering the 42mm diameter. AR-coated sapphire crystal. The soft iron core to ward off magnetic fields that would hurt the movement provides protection rated to 25,000A/m. The watch is powered by the Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1126 which is based on the (and I believe built by) Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 889. This has a hacking movement with quick set date. The rotor uses a piece of 21k gold as a weight. The dial is a cross hatched / guilloche design in silvery white with applied indices with superluminova and white gold Arabic numerals for 3, 6, 9, 12. The quality of finish and texture of this dial and floating logo is right up there in the same class as AP / PP and really lifts the watch. The original Jorg Hysek design emerged in the late 70s as the gentleman’s sport watch competing with the Royal Oak and Nautilus. While it has evolved over the years, it remains very thin for a sporty watch, which makes it extremely versatile for all occasions. The case size of 42mm seems large on paper, but fits comfortably on even smaller wrists.
