Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art, Chagall & l’Opéra de Paris “Tribute to Beethoven, Bizet, Verdi & Gluck”, Reference 86090 A unique and extraordinary yellow gold wristwatch with polychrome enamel dial by Anita Porchet, after the fresco adorning the ceiling of the Palais Garnier by Marc Chagall, Circa 2012 Dial: polychrome enamel by Anita Porchet Calibre: cal. 2460 SC automatic, 27 jewels Movement number: 5’167’989 Case: 18k yellow gold, hinged case back and inner sapphire crystal display back secured by 6 screws Case number: 1’190’342 Closure: black Vacheron Constantin alligator strap and 18k yellow gold buckle Size: 40 mm diameter Signed: case, dial and movement Accessories: Vacheron Constantin Guarantee Certificate, loupe, USB instruction manual and presentation box Inspired by the soaring dreamscape of Marc Chagall’s fresco above the Palais Garnier, Vacheron Constantin entrusted Anita Porchet, the greatest enameller of her generation, to translate that celestial vision into the intimate theatre of a wristwatch. Working in grand feu enamel, Porchet builds the composition in delicate, translucent layers, each one painted with microscopic strokes before being surrendered to the kiln. With every firing, the colours deepen, fuse, and awaken; with every return to the flame, the risk of loss is absolute. Yet from this alchemy of fragility and fire, Porchet summons a dial alive with Chagall’s swirling blues, radiant golds, and airborne figures, compressed miracles rendered on a surface scarcely larger than a coin. The result is a work that blurs the line between watch and artwork: a miniature cosmos where monumental fresco becomes molten glass, where emotion survives the fire, and where Vacheron Constantin’s pursuit of beauty finds one of its most luminous expressions. The present wristwatch is a unique creation, remarkable in its ambition and scope, capturing almost the entire expanse of Chagall’s monumental fresco above the Palais Garnier. By contrast, the few other known examples depict only small fragments of the masterpiece, each focusing on a single composer or isolated vignette from the grand celestial tableau. This watch, however, dares to encompass Chagall’s sweeping vision in its entirety, an extraordinary feat at the miniature scale, making it not merely an interpretation, but an unparalleled homage to the full orchestral splendour of his Parisian sky.
