Urban Jürgensen Big 8 Aviator “Black Guilloche Lume Dial”

Up for grabs is an Urban Jürgensen “Big 8” Aviator. A later execution of the Ref. 8, this example features the larger 40mm case while still being powered by the ultra-thin automatic Calibre 1160 from Frédéric Piguet. This particular watch is highly unusual. Known as the “Aviator,” it departs from the brand’s traditional precious metal dress watches with a stainless steel case and a far more utilitarian aesthetic. The black guilloché dial is paired with luminous hour markers and hands; a rare, sport-oriented approach from Urban Jürgensen. Production numbers are unknown, but examples are seldom seen, and information on the model is extremely limited. This specific piece previously appeared through EWC a few years ago. The original papers simply reference the model name and confirm a 2015 retail sale, a challenging period for the brand. The watch is presented in excellent pre-owned condition and is offered as a complete set. It is fitted on an aftermarket strap, while retaining its original Urban Jürgensen buckle.
