This steel and gold Universal Geneve Automatic ref. 279.971 belongs to the Gold Boy line, released by Universal Genève in 1995–1996 — the brand’s final production period before its eventual dormancy, and one that combined the house’s classical Geneva dial aesthetics with modern automatic movements and mixed-material construction. This is the boys-size watch within the Gold Boy family, it is in an excellent condition and just serviced. The stainless steel case has a solid gold bezel, giving the watch its characteristic two-tone styling, and it measures 32mm, excluding the crown. The case is in excellent condition with only very light traces of use, with a sharpn geometry and well-defined surfaces. The sapphire caseback allows a view of the movement. The glossy black dial with printed Roman numerals and a date aperture at 3 o’clock is in an excellent original and untouched condition with no patina and no oxidations. The gold-toned hands are original. The movement is the Universal Genève Calibre 71, based on an ETA 2892-A2, and is one of the most reliable and respected movements found in neo-vintage watches, it has been fully serviced in-house and keeps excellent time. The watch is fitted with its original steel and gold bracelet with a signed double folding clasp, in an excellent condition, with an overall length of approximately 19 cm.
