The Polerouter was his first notable success, introduced in 1954 to commemorate Scandinavian Airlines’ new trans-polar flights, which significantly shortened travel time between North America and Europe. These flights demanded reliability in magnetic-intense environments, and the Polerouter was engineered to meet those conditions while retaining the refined simplicity that later became a hallmark of Genta’s work. Our example is a late-execution date model featuring a deep blue dial with an asymmetric date window and its original magnifying crystal (please note the small crack at 9 o’clock). The 34mm stainless steel case has been refinished at some point in the past and presents clean, honest lines without compromising the character of the watch. The watch retains its original beads-of-rice bracelet and correct end links, and it will comfortably fit a 7 1/4-inch wrist. Inside, this Polerouter is powered by Universal Genève’s in-house micro-rotor automatic movement. While the earliest Polerouters used bumper automatics, the micro-rotor design is what truly put the brand on the map. Its compact architecture allows for a thinner case profile, making the watch notably comfortable to wear while still delivering the charm and mechanical interest collectors look for. Polerouters aren’t impossible to find, but good examples are increasingly scarce, especially those that remain attractive and honest after decades of use. This piece offers a balanced mix of originality, wearability, and design pedigree—an accessible way to enjoy an early Genta creation that continues to resonate with collectors. Condition Notes: • Case: 35mm stainless steel. Refinished in the past but retains strong profile and lug definition. • Crystal: Original plexiglass with centered “U” logo and cyclops lens. Small crack at 9 o’clock • Movement: Universal Genève caliber 1-69 micro-rotor; running and keeping time. • Crown: UG-signed screw-down crown — rare configuration. • Bracelet: Original BOR bracelet, fits up to a 7¼″ wrist. • Caseback: Globe logo faint but present; serial and reference clearly legible.
