Arguably best known for their Compax chronographs - notably worn by Eric Clapton and Nina Rindt as well as their Polerouter - a Gérald Genta design at the young age of just 23, UG timepieces saw notable usage as tools and on the wrists of celebrated figures. Today, Breitling's acquisition and revival of the brand in '23 is bringing back more attention to the deeper cut brand that vintage enthusiasts love so much. On offer is a Uni-Compax chronograph circa 1940s cased in 18k pink gold. It comes from the collection of a well-regarded watchmaker and it is running and all functions are working properly. This piece has remained in good vintage condition considering its age and makes for a great crossover of a sporty/dressy option for someone with a medium to larger sized wrist, given the 37mm case. The dial has some service marks visible in the macro shots but looks honest and has nice character throughout. The case remains strong with thick, even lugs and a crisp looking hallmark on its left side. Notably, the caseback retails its ref. and serial number which are clearly legible and desirable for any vintage UG collector. Dial: Has some service marks visible in the macro shots they aren't too distracting given the amount of patina it has. Overall, well-preserved considering its age and presents in honest looking condition. Hands: Are correct and matching. Bezel: Remains sharp with no significant looking wear. Case: Is excellent with sharp lugs retaining thick and even proportions. The caseback ref. number and serial are still visible which is rare very desirable to find in vintage UG. Hallmark on the left side of the case is very crisp. Correct pushers and signed uncrown. Crystal: Clear, correct and signed UG. Bracelet: Two piece gator strap in brown with generic buckle. Accessories: Included is a UG signed strap (18 x 13mm) and 18k UG signed pin buckle to sweeten the deal. All functions of the watch operate flawlessly. The movement is running well on our timegrapher and comes with our 6-month mechanical warranty.
