Ilvo Fontana, a specialist in precision instruments, received a prestigious order from the Italian Navy. He was to design a new watch for their pilots. This challenge had to meet the Navy's high quality standards and very precise technical specifications, but above all it had to guarantee maximum visibility and reliability in any light or weather conditions. However, unfortunate circumstances at the time did not allow this to happen. In 2000 Italo Fontana, Ilvo's grandson, came across the precious designs which became his inspiration for the first u-Boat watch.

We use the manufacturer's waterproof rating. The metre specification does not refer to a diving depth, but to the test pressure which was applied in the context of the water-tightness test. Pressure peaks may occur when swimming or under a jet of water (e.g. when showering or washing hands). The watch is subjected to much greater stress at the affected points than the immersion depth would suggest. Only from the classification 50 m / 5 bar / 5 atm can be spoken of a water resistant watch (showers possible). From the classification 100 m / 10 bar / 10 atm, the watch can also be used for swimming.On new watches the quoted price includes 19% German VAT. If your EU-country has a different tax rate, you get an offer with the tax rate of your country. On used watches the shown price is taxed on the difference after §25a UStG.
