This Tudor Oyster is from the first generation of the so-called ‘Big Rose’ Ref. 7934. The first and second generation of the ‘Big Rose’ both feature cross-hair dials with elongated dagger and arrow head numerals. However, the first generation of the ‘Big Rose’ has a more matte finished silvered dial and the numerals are outwardly faceted at the quarters and rounded at the intervening hours, this compares to the second generation ‘Big Rose’ which has a silk matte silvered dial and numerals of similar shape to the first generation but which are all inwardly faceted. The first generation ‘Big Rose’ also features a differently styled case back to that of the second generation, with steep chamfer to the outer edge of the screw-down case back found in the first series. The first series ‘Big Rose’ Ref. 7934 appeared in the late 1950s and the changeover to the second series occurred around 1959.
