1960 Tudor Ref. 7928 “PCG” Submariner

Unearthing a fresh-to-market Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 with Pointed Crown Guards is already exhilarating, but when it boasts one of the most spectacular tropical dials, it becomes the stuff of legends. Basking under the Hawaiian sun for over 60 years, the once deep black dial has transformed into a mesmerizing tropical hue, a symphony of chocolate, gold and peanut butter tones that can only be achieved through the passage of time. The sun-kissed warmth of the dial is absolutely remarkable, radiating a unique character that collectors spend a lifetime dreaming about. This fresh to market find was recently acquired from the family of the original owner in Hawaii. The original owner, Albert Rapozo, a Navy Verteran, served the Federal Government for 42 years and likely acquired this watch through the Naval Supply Center which he worked at. Not only does this watch have one of the nicest tropical dials I’ve seen, the case remains unpolished, and the based on the underside of the lugs lived its life on a strap just as those that he likely issued to Navy Divers. The caseback is stamped 1.61 and shows no service markings. This watch has likely never been touched and needs a service. I’m leaving it in as found condition, with the exception of a new true dome crystal and Molequin strap. All lume is intact and hands are stable. The drag marks on dial are much more subtle in natural lighting conditions but also tell the story of this watch; it has character that can only be developed from a remarkable life. We can only imagine all the adventures this watch went on.
