Montres Tudor SA has designed, manufactured and marketed Tudor watches since March of 1946. Rolex founder Hans Wildorf created Tudor to create a product for authorized Rolex dealers at a cheaper price than Rolex, while still offering the same quality product as a Rolex. Offered here is Tudor’s version of the Rolex Submariner, which debuted in the 1950s. This particular example dates to 63, bearing the reference 7928, and features an extremely rare “chapter ring” gilt dial, fitted in a “pointed crown guards”, or “PCG” case.
This Tudor Submariner is in great vintage condition. The case appears unpolished (or if it ever was, it was extremely light), with the original beveled edges still clearly visible and prominent. The dial is gorgeous, with one extremely minor scuff on the dial (for full disclosure) to the right of “Prince”, which is not visible to the naked eye and requires real scrutiny under a loupe. Further, the original radium lume is still present on both the dial and hands, aged to a lovely yellow color, and extremely attractive. The original, very rare, and period-correct “Skinny 40” bezel insert is likewise in nice condition, with light wear from use.
