The watch is in good condition, fully functional and has just benefitted from an inspection by my watchmaker, together with regulation. The watch, as a consequence is running well! The watch dates from 1969, confirmed by the serial number located between the lugs at the six o’clock position. This reference, 7021/0, was the first Tudor Submariner to feature a date window which has a “roulette wheel”, with even numbers appearing in red at the date window and odd numbers in black although perhaps surprisingly, Tudor did not include a “quick-change” date mechanism for this model (and neither did its sister company Rolex until well into the 1970’s). This Tudor as one would expect, exhibits features from its sister company Rolex, including the case and crown. The bezel itself is in good shape and has been cleaned by my watchmaker ("gunge" does collect underneath causing bezels to rotate with difficulty). It rotates nicely in both directions as it was meant to of course. Although in my opinion black in colour it does seem to reflect more of a dark blue hue in the photographs. It could just be my eyes -make up your own mind on that!! The watch is powered by the ETA cal. 2484 movement which has 25 jewels, a beat rate of 18000 b.p.h and a power reserve of 42 hours (when new). It appears that the 2484 ebauche was provided exclusively to Tudor by ETA, almost like a modern-day manufacture (or “in house”) movement. It is a vintage automatic watch movement found in various Tudor watches from circa 1950s ~ 1960’s and seems to be based on the ETA 2452. The watch is of course called the Snowflake; a nickname given by collectors due to the shape of the hour hand. The Snowflake was strongly influenced by the French Navy--known among aficionados as the Marine Nationale (MN)--who preferred a watch that was easier to read when underwater. Tudor fashioned the square hour plots and large Snowflake hands for increased legibility in low light or murky conditions. Today, the Snowflake has become a signature trait of Tudor’s line of modern sports watches. This particular watch was originally bought in Madrid in 1970 and remained cherished by the same family until purchased by myself last year. It is all original although I was informed that due to deterioration of the lume on the hands, the hands (and only the hands) were professionally re-lumed fairly recently. The watch comes on a Tudor signed bracelet in good overall condition with normal light scratches and scuffs from use –expected of course from regular use . The bracelet is a little younger than the watch, dating from December 1990, ascertained by referencing the bracelet code “O12 “ with published tables. The bracelet should fit most wrist sizes as there are ample micro-adjustment holes at the clasp. The watch does not come with papers/service history but as mentioned, my watchmaker has confirmed that it is running well and has undergone recent regulation. Do remember too that the watch is 56 years old –it will exhibit the odd mark or scratch but overall its appearance will not in the least disappoint! It will of course come housed in a genuine (modern) Tudor storage box. Due to a change in personal circumstances I am reluctantly offering my watch for sale –very much your gain and my loss!!
