Model reference 7987/8. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? From the serial number stamped between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1971. CONDITION Tudor used to be Rolex’s cheaper cousin. Rolex designed the watches, usually produced the cases and dials, but selected and fitted an off the shelf movement to reduce costs rather than one of their in house items. We have vintage Rolex models if you need the in house movement, but the Tudor is actually the rarer watch – far fewer were sold, so they are harder to find. This is extra special being set in an 18k gold case, with the familiar Rolex fluted bezel of the Oyster case. Behind the clip on case back lies a Tudor branded and finished ETA 2483 25 jewel automatic movement, which is working well. The case back does have light marks and a dent, but nothing severe. Inside the case back is the RWC markings for Rolex Watch Co., who made the case, and the crown is also branded Rolex. The crown has an underlined logo, meaning this is gold plated steel (as is the original buckle.). The dial and hands are very nice, and not having a date can be an advantage on a watch of this period as they didn’t always have quick set date (plus some people really don’t like the Rolex magnifier on the crystal of the date watches). The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
